This coat was comissioned by FabTextiles (designer Anastasia Pistofidou). For this garment, she used wool waste, coffee waste and alginate and made "coffee leather" using her signature recipe of integrating and reinforcing the alginate bioplastic with wool and using food waste as an additive for color, smell and waking up all of the senses.
As a comissioned designer, I was in charge of coming up with a design that would be adapted to the material. One of the constraints of this textile is that it is thin and heavy, making seams on shoulders a very prone to tearing point. I thus came up with a raglan sleeves design, and was also in charge of the patternmaking, sewing and of the photoshoot.
It was developed for the exhibition of #arselectronica in #esch2022 "IN TRANSFER, A NEW CONDITION and has been showcased in "TEXTILE TALES" in FAB23 in Bhutan.
